Booking your Philippine National ID appointment online is straightforward once you know the right portal and what to expect from the booking flow — but if the PhilSys website is being slow, slots are showing as full, or you’re not sure whether you even need an appointment, it’s easy to get stuck.

This guide gives you the complete picture: who needs to book, how to book step by step at the official portal, what to do when no slots are available near you, and how to reschedule or cancel if your plans change.

Walk-in or appointment? Not every registration center requires you to book in advance. Many LGU-based centers, barangay halls, and mall booths accept walk-in applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. Check our PhilSys Registration Centers directory to see which centers near you accept walk-ins — this can save you days of waiting for a booking slot.

Who Needs to Book a National ID Appointment?

An online appointment at register.philsys.gov.ph is the right path for:

  • First-time registrants who have not yet completed Step 1 (online pre-registration) or who have completed Step 1 and need to schedule their Step 2 in-person biometrics capture.
  • Correction applicants who need to update a wrong name, birthday, or address on their existing PhilSys record — corrections also require an in-person visit and are typically booked through the same portal or directly at the center.
  • Replacement applicants for a lost or damaged PhilID card — PSA usually handles these by walk-in at main PSA offices, but some centers ask you to call ahead.
  • Anyone who prefers a guaranteed time slot rather than queuing on arrival.

If you have already completed Step 2 biometrics and are simply waiting for your card, you do not need another appointment. Use the tracking guide to check your card status instead.

Before You Book: What You’ll Need Ready

The booking system will ask for your basic personal details and your Transaction Reference Number (TRN) if you have already completed Step 1 pre-registration. Have these ready before you open the portal:

  • Your full legal name (exactly as it appears on your primary ID)
  • Your date of birth
  • Your registered mobile number and email address
  • Your TRN from Step 1, if you already pre-registered
  • A clear idea of which province and city you want to register in
Not sure which documents to bring to your appointment? Don’t look that up separately right now — finish your booking first, then use our Requirements Checklist Generator to get a personalized, printable list based on your exact situation (citizen, minor, senior, OFW, PWD).

How to Book a National ID Appointment Online — Step by Step

The official booking portal is register.philsys.gov.ph. Do not use any other website — there are fake “appointment booking” sites that charge fees or steal personal information. The real PhilSys portal is always free.

Step 1 — Open the Official PhilSys Portal

Go to register.philsys.gov.ph on your phone or computer. The site works best on Chrome or Firefox. If the page won’t load, try again after a few minutes — the portal does experience high traffic during peak hours (typically 8–10 AM on weekdays). Do not refresh repeatedly; this can cause session errors.

On the homepage, look for the button or link labeled “Book an Appointment” or “Schedule Step 2” (the label has changed slightly across updates — either takes you to the same flow).

Step 2 — Enter Your Personal Information

The portal will ask for:

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Mobile number
  • Email address
  • Your TRN (if you completed pre-registration — if not, you will be prompted to complete pre-registration first before booking)

Enter your mobile number carefully — your appointment confirmation will be sent via SMS to this number. Use the same number you registered during pre-registration if you already have a TRN.

Step 3 — Select Your Registration Center

After your details are verified, the portal displays a center selection screen. Choose your region first, then your province or city, and the system will show available registration centers in that area.

Tip: Centers are listed with their full address and type (PSA office, LGU center, mall-based, mobile site). If your nearest city shows no available dates, try neighboring cities — slots at centers 30–45 minutes away often open up when local centers are full.

Click on a center name to see its available dates.

Step 4 — Choose Your Date and Time Slot

A calendar view shows available dates in green and fully booked dates in grey. Select an available date, then choose from the available time slots shown (typically in 30-minute windows: 8:00 AM, 8:30 AM, 9:00 AM, and so on).

Morning slots between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM tend to fill fastest. If you need flexibility, look at afternoon slots (1:00 PM onward) which are often still available even when morning slots are gone.

Step 5 — Review and Confirm Your Booking

The portal shows a summary screen with your name, chosen center, date, and time. Review every detail carefully — especially the center address and the date — before clicking Confirm.

Once confirmed, you cannot edit the booking from within the portal. To change it, you will need to cancel and rebook (covered below).

Step 6 — Save Your Appointment Confirmation

After confirming, the portal displays your appointment confirmation code and sends the same details to your mobile number via SMS and (if provided) your email address.

Take a screenshot of the confirmation screen immediately. SMS delivery can take up to 30 minutes, and some users report not receiving the SMS at all. Your screenshot is your backup proof.

On appointment day, bring either the printed confirmation or your phone with the confirmation screenshot. Some centers ask to see it before you join the queue.

Before your appointment: Use our Appointment Preparation Checklist — it gives you a day-by-day countdown from 7 days before your appointment to the morning itself, so you arrive with everything the PSA officer needs and avoid a wasted trip.

How to Reschedule or Cancel Your Appointment

Missing your appointment slot does not cancel your registration — your TRN remains valid and you can rebook. Here’s how:

To Reschedule

  1. Go back to register.philsys.gov.ph and log in using your TRN and the mobile number you registered.
  2. Find your existing appointment in your profile or dashboard.
  3. Select Cancel Appointment — this releases your current slot back to the pool.
  4. Immediately book a new appointment using the same flow described above.

There is no penalty for cancelling and rebooking, but do it as early as possible — slots at popular centers refill within hours of being released.

To Cancel Without Rebooking

Follow the same steps above but stop after cancelling. Your TRN remains active and you can book a new appointment at any time in the future without losing your pre-registration data.

If You Missed Your Appointment Without Cancelling

Log back into the portal and rebook a new slot. Missed appointments without prior cancellation are recorded in some center systems, so it’s better practice to cancel in advance if you know you can’t attend — but it does not affect your eligibility or TRN validity.

No Slots Available Near You? What to Do

This is one of the most common frustrations with the PhilSys booking system, and there are several practical ways around it.

Check Back on Monday Morning at 8 AM

The PSA releases new appointment batches on a weekly cycle. Monday morning — particularly between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM — is when new slots appear. Set a reminder and open the portal at exactly 8:00 AM on Monday. Slots at busy centers in Metro Manila and major cities can fill within the first hour.

Try Nearby Cities and Municipalities

The booking system lets you select any center in any region — you are not restricted to your registered address or the nearest center to your home. A center one or two cities away often has more availability than your local PSA office. Use our Registration Centers directory to find alternate centers within a reasonable distance.

Look for Mobile Registration Drives

The PSA regularly deploys mobile registration teams to barangay halls, malls, schools, and community events — especially in provinces. These are announced through your local LGU’s Facebook page and the official PhilSys social media accounts. Mobile drives often accept walk-ins without requiring an advance booking.

Check LGU-Based Centers for Walk-In Availability

Many city and municipal government offices host PhilSys registration desks that are not listed in the main booking portal’s slot calendar — they operate on a walk-in basis only. Call your City Hall or Municipal Hall’s civil registration office to ask if they are currently accepting walk-in registrants. This is often the fastest option when the online system appears fully booked.

Try the Portal Again After 12 NN

Appointment slots are also released when other users cancel their existing bookings. Midday (after 12:00 NN) is a secondary window when cancellations show up — someone who booked a Monday slot over the weekend may cancel on Sunday night, making that slot available again by Monday morning or midday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment to get a National ID?

Not necessarily. An online appointment at register.philsys.gov.ph is the most convenient way to guarantee your slot on a specific date and time — but many PhilSys registration centers across the Philippines also accept walk-in applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. The availability of walk-in service depends on the specific center and its current capacity. LGU-based centers, barangay-level registration drives, and mall booths during PhilSys events are the most likely to accept walk-ins. Check the registration centers directory to find walk-in options near you before spending time trying to book a slot online.

Can I book a National ID appointment for the same day?

Same-day booking through the online portal is very rare in practice — slots are typically booked days or weeks in advance, and same-day slots are not a feature the system is designed around. If you need to register urgently, your best option is to visit a registration center that accepts walk-ins without an advance booking. Call your nearest LGU office, city hall, or PSA satellite center first to confirm they are currently accepting walk-in applicants before you travel.

What happens if I miss my National ID appointment?

Missing your appointment does not cancel your registration and does not affect your TRN. Your pre-registration data remains intact in the PhilSys system. You simply need to go back to register.philsys.gov.ph, log in with your TRN, and book a new appointment slot. There is no waiting period or penalty for missing a booking, though it is good practice to cancel in advance through the portal if you know you cannot attend — this releases your slot for another applicant and keeps your booking record clean.

The PhilSys appointment system is not working — what do I do?

The register.philsys.gov.ph portal experiences high traffic during peak hours and occasionally goes down for maintenance. If the site isn’t loading or is throwing errors, try these steps in order: (1) Wait 10–15 minutes and try again — brief outages usually resolve quickly. (2) Clear your browser cache and cookies, then reload the page. (3) Try a different browser (Chrome tends to work most reliably with the portal). (4) Try on mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or vice versa. (5) If the system has been down for several hours, check the official PSA Facebook page (@PSAgovph) or the PhilSys social media accounts for maintenance announcements. Persistent outages are typically resolved within 24 hours. In the meantime, consider visiting a nearby registration center that accepts walk-ins.

Is there a fee to book a National ID appointment online?

No. Booking your PhilSys appointment is completely free. The entire registration process — from online pre-registration to biometrics capture to card delivery — is free of charge under Republic Act 11055. If any website, Facebook page, or individual is charging a fee to book a National ID appointment on your behalf, this is a scam. Use only the official portal at register.philsys.gov.ph.

Can I book a National ID appointment for someone else?

You can fill in another person’s information in the booking form on their behalf — for example, a parent booking for a minor child or an adult child booking for an elderly parent. However, the registrant themselves must be physically present at the appointment. For minor children under 18, a parent or legal guardian must accompany them. For senior citizens who cannot travel to a center, contact your local LGU or provincial PSA office to ask about home-based or mobile registration options.

I completed pre-registration (Step 1) but never got a TRN. Can I still book?

Your TRN should have been displayed on screen immediately after completing pre-registration, and sent to your registered email. If you did not save it, check your email inbox (including spam/junk) for a message from the PhilSys system. If you cannot find it, call the PSA hotline at 1388 with your full name and date of birth — PSA staff can retrieve your TRN from their system. Do not re-register without your TRN, as duplicate records create problems in the PhilSys database.

How long does the actual appointment take?

The biometrics capture itself — photo, fingerprints, and iris scan — takes approximately 10–15 minutes once you are seated with a PSA registration officer. However, total time at the center (including queue, document verification, and processing) is typically 30–90 minutes, depending on how busy the center is that day. Morning slots at large PSA offices and mall-based centers tend to have longer queues. Arriving exactly at your scheduled time (not earlier, not later) helps you move through efficiently.

After Your Appointment — What Comes Next

Once you have completed your Step 2 biometrics appointment, you will receive a PhilSys Transaction Slip from the PSA officer. Keep this slip safe — it contains your Transaction Reference Number (TRN), which is the only way to track your National ID card delivery and access your digital ePhilID.

Your physical PhilSys card is printed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and delivered by PHLPost to your registered address. Delivery times range from 3–12 months depending on your region. You can check your card status at any time using our PHLPost National ID Tracking Guide.

You do not need to wait for the physical card to start using your National ID. Once your record is processed (usually 4–8 weeks after your appointment), you can download your digital ePhilID — which is legally identical to the physical card — via the eGovPH app.
